DIVERGENT: A QUESTION AND ANSWER SERVICE

DIVERGENT: A QUESTION AND ANSWER SERVICE

The themed service for the 16th of September, 2018, was tagged Divergent—A pseudo Word Gist plus variety service featuring solo rendition from TJ, reminding us that our lives belong to God and God alone; comic entertainment by Harry Turker which lightened our hearts and fully prepared us for a power-packed service; special number Reckless Love from GX Choir—The song being a remainder that God’s love is never ending no matter the circumstance, even when we don’t deserve it. And then the mind-boggling questions and answers on Christian life, God’s love, scriptural principles on Feminism, dressing and dress sense etc.

Of course, from examining the word divergent to mean tending to be different from others reveals the “divergent” nature of today’s service. If you’ve ever attended any of Church 316’s Word Wednesdays (you should from today onward), you will understand how it is to be in a refreshing atmosphere where God’s Word is being shared in a relaxed and intimate manner.

The service started off with an exciting and spirit-uplifting praise and worship session by the GX choir. Our Psalm of protection, Psalm 91 led by Pastor Tony was recited and our Promise for the Week taken from Joel 2:23-24 was prayed into our lives.

“Be glad, people of Zion, rejoice in the Lord your God, for He has given you the autumn rains because he is faithful. He sends you abundant showers, both autumn and spring rains, as before. The threshing floors will be filled with grain; the vats will overflow with new wine and oil”   — NIV

Pastor J, our resident Pastor, then took the stage and in his usual style led us in an intense worship session enabling the move of the Holy Spirit within us and in our midst.

The Word Wednesday Crew were in charge of the divergent session where FAQ of any kind were answered in an interactive and inspiring manner. Some of the questions included;

  1. Can God’s love be described as reckless?
  2. What does the bible say about feminism?
  3. ‘I have given my life to Christ, but I don’t feel saved’
  4. How should Christians react to homosexuality?
  5. Is it okay to judge people based on what they wear to church?

The service was rounded off with Pastor J reminding us that we are saved by Grace alone.

“Dear Christian, for God so loved the world not for God so loved the church…

That He gave to the world not to the church…

So, let your light shine…

Go into the world and make disciples, don’t go into church and recycle…

You were made light to shine in darkness…

Everything that God did was not for us, it’s for them…

So, don’t define your sphere of influence by how many churches you go to…

See, the more people in church with miniskirts, smoking weed…that shows the effectiveness of our reach to the world…

I don’t want people that have it all together. Then we are not doing our job…

You don’t take a well man to the hospital, you take a sick man to the hospital…

He did come for the saved, He came for the sinner…”

“The church is not for just for the born-again Christians alone, we need the short-skirt-dressing, weed-smoking, unbelievers and non-Christ followers to come to church where they will experience the light”, he said.
